Scholars has produced six films with themes ranging from healthcare and higher education in Kenya, Ghana, Mozambique and South Africa.

Reforming Rural Healthcare

Cardiovascular diseases are the number 1 cause of death globally.

The World Heart Federation and Access Accelerated are going to great lengths to give voice to this silent killer. Filmed in Kenya in Nairobi, Vihiga County and Isiolo county, the film shares the struggles and breakthroughs of the heroes working on the ground to bring awareness to this silent killer.

The Beat of Change

Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is a treatable and entirely preventable disease and yet, despite being largely eradicated in first-world countries, is still a heavy burden for the citizens of lower income countries, particularly affecting young women.

Globally the death toll of RHD is the same as HIV, and yet receives little attention. Filmed in Maputo, Mozambique, the film tells the inspiring and challenging work by the World Heart Foundation to bring awareness and advocacy to the voices of those affected by this rampant disease.

Stopping the Stigma

In Ghana the NCD Alliance turns to those with lived experiences of non-communicable diseases (NCD’s) to be the voice of change.

Due to a lack of awareness, prevention of NCD’s is unsuccessful, but stigma may be the greatest hurdle for organisations, especially for those with mental health challenges.

People living with and affected by NCD’s are important agents of change, mobilisers and experts in their own right capable of driving change in communities.

This is a strong and inspiring story showcasing how, through the power of advocacy and shared experiences, stigma can be eliminated in communities.
